WHAT IS ENERGY TO CARE?

Energy to Care is a free benchmarking and awards program for Healthcare facilities, offered through the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE).

The program provides an opportunity for facility professionals to measure energy use at their sites, implement efficiency updates, and track the success of implemented strategies. Participating hospitals are recognized for reducing energy consumption by 10% or more

Approximately 1500 hospitals participate in Energy to Care nationwide.

Currently, 8 PSHFE hospitals participate in the Energy to Care Program. The chapter has set a strategic goal to increase the number of participating hospitals by 12 over the next 2 years, more than doubling involvement from its members.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE PROGRAM?

  • Reduce consumption by 10% at participating hospitals

  • Enable facility owners/ managers to see how their energy use compares to other hospitals of similar size and building characteristics

  • Gauge the success of energy and money saving strategies

  • Redirect money formerly spent on inefficient operations to improved patient care

WHAT DO PARTICIPANT HOSPITALS RECIEVE?

Through the program, participant hospitals will receive complimentary:

  • Creation of an ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Account

  • Enrollment in ASHE's Energy to Care Program

  • 2 years of maintenance for both Portfolio Manager & Energy to Care accounts

  • 1 day of onsite consultation from a professional commissioning engineer

  • Field report with lowest-cost, highest return energy saving measures

  • Assistance highlighting past or future projects available for utility rebates
